What to Buy Now: Gauze Dresses
When the weather pushes triple digits, there is only one material I will wear: gauze. I love how it feels cool and breezy no matter how hot it gets. I don't care about new-fangled fibers or weaves; nothing compares with good, old-fashioned cotton gauze for summer. I own lots of gauze peasant tops, so what I'm really looking for now are easy one-piece dresses like this Old Navy embroidered dress (Buy Direct.) At less than $30, it delivers all the summer style I could want and will work great for casual outings. XS-XXL, cocoa or black, missy, tall and petite sizes. 5 Summer Styles You Didn't Know You Could Wear
Every year about this time I talk to women who moan about the same things: arms they don't want to show off, bodies they don't want to put in a bathing suit. It seems summer brings out the body anxiety in all of us. But there's a way to pull off most summer looks with ease if you just apply a little fashion knowledge.5 Summer Styles You Didn't Know You Could Wear originally appeared on About.com Women's Fashion on Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 at 08:26:09. Hit or Miss? Christina Aguilera
Maybe it's just me, but once you start mixing chains, criss-cross bodices, hi-low hems, shredded vinyl skirt, hard-core jewelry and old Hollywood hair the look becomes less about glamour and more about tacky. But not everyone agrees with my opinion about Christina Aguilera's black Versace gown she wore to last night's MTV awards. Sound off with your opinion! Quiz: Do You Need a New Look?
Last week I saw a picture of Michelle Williams' new haircut and decided I had to have it. That day. I was so sick of my same old hairstyle that I wanted to change immediately (I love my short new 'do, by the way.) I also like to change up my style frequently, partly because I have a low boredom threshold and partly because I love to try new things. If it's been a while since you've freshened up your look, take my quick quiz to see if you could use something new.Quiz: Do You Need a New Look? originally appeared on About.com Women's Fashion on Saturday, June 5th, 2010 at 11:27:09. Read: 101 Things I Learned in Fashion School
This great little book, 101 Things I Learned in Fashion School, Compare Prices, is perfect for the aspiring fashion designer. Not only is it full of design advice I'd love to see about half of the "Project Runway" designers follow (like "There's a dangerous gray line between fashion and costume"), the book also has tidbits for anyone curious about fashion (such as "Why men and women button on opposite sides.") It's all designed in short chapters to make it easy to read and quick to reference. What to Buy Now: Statement Shoes
So here's my fashion theory as to why I start craving flashy shoes when the temperature starts rising: when it's too hot to wear big statement necklaces, it's only natural to move the bling to your feet. Whatever the reason, I love embellished shoes, especially sandals this time of year. I bought an awesome pair of black jeweled patent sandals (Buy Direct) the other day at Nordstrom -- the semi-annual sale is going on so they were a deal -- to wear to see "Sex and the City 2" at a late night showing (which, by the way was full of fabulous fashion.) Statement shoes are a great way to add some spunk to your shorts and cropped pants (and they even fit on fat days.) 'Sex and the City 2' Almost Here!
I'm just beyond excited to go see "Sex and the City 2" with my BFF. We've been planning to make it a Carrie-worthy evening of cocktails and shopping. Of all the things I am most looking forward to in the movie, I think the return of Aidan Shaw is the most interesting (loved him!) I also can't wait to see the clothes, of course, especially when there are so many amazing pieces (with a $10 million clothing budget it tends to be pretty fab). Want: Denim Shorts
Honestly, I'm not sure what I'd wear all summer if it weren't for denim shorts. I love the versatility of denim shorts, so I definitely know a good pair when I see them. This pair by Faded Glory meets all of my qualifications: a good length (not too short, not too long), pockets (to stash stuff) and belt loops. A big plus: this pair is just $10. First Lady's Fashion Splash
Did you see First Lady Michelle Obama's gorgeous blue one-shoulder gown she wore this week? Everything about the Peter Sorenson gown was spectacular and the First Lady's hair and makeup were really spot-on, as well.
